Classic L-Shape Drill

Solo Training Positioning Progressive Speed Control

Description

A classic drill to improve position play and stroke control: Pocket multiple object balls in a corner-pocket L-shape and leave the cue ball ideally placed for the next shot.

Instructions

Place 6–10 object balls 4–6 inches apart along an L-line to the right corner (last ball as the money ball in the pocket). Cue ball starts on the head string; after each pot, the next ball becomes the target. If the angle gets tight, you may pull the cue ball back up to half a diamond before the next shot.

Goals

Build positional awareness along an L-shape and guide the cue ball cleanly into the next starting window, keeping stroke speed and contact point consistent for repeatable angles.

Success criteria

Every object ball drops and the cue ball finishes in the intended window (half to one diamond) ahead of the next ball, with no rail or other-ball contacts that make the next shot harder.

Tips

Begin with 4-5 balls and only add more once you can clear at least 7 of 10 runs cleanly; mix stun, soft follow, and soft draw while keeping the same pre-shot routine.
